The client's vision was to adopt a hybrid building approach focusing on the application of Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) principles for two three-level apartments, elevating amenities for occupants and achieving their first Homestar 7 project.
The design and build team had prior experience in Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) buildings. For this project, they strategically used CLT as the primary structure and complemented it with a prefabricated timber frame, complete with windows and cladding 90% complete, to quickly enclose the building envelope.
The roof diaphragm gave the ability to enhance the entrances in the two buildings to achieve a point of arrival. Along with the roof, the CLT mid-floors, served as the diaphragm, expediting the construction process and improving health and safety access considerations.
